Uptown, near the Register of Deeds

Best for express signings and same-day weddings. All of these are a short walk or ride from 720 E. 4th Street.

  • Marshall Park

800 E. 3rd St. · Uptown · Closest to the Register of Deeds

A small green park with a pond and fountain, about a block from the county building. Our default spot for express signings: quick to reach, quiet on weekdays, and better-looking than a hallway.

  • Romare Bearden Park

    300 S. Church St. · Uptown

The skyline backdrop everyone recognizes, with gardens, a waterfall wall, and plenty of spots for a quick ceremony and photos. Busier on game days and weekend afternoons.

  • First Ward Park

    301 E. 7th St. · Uptown

Open lawn, modern lines, and the Uptown towers overhead. Easy light rail access and a good choice for an early-morning ceremony.

Parks and greenways

Best for a personal elopement with a few guests and photos.

  • Freedom Park

    1900 East Blvd. · Dilworth

Charlotte's classic park: a lake, a bridge, and big trees. Great for a relaxed ceremony with a few guests and a picnic afterward.

  • Little Sugar Creek Greenway

    Midtown · Elizabeth

Water, stone, and bridges a few minutes from Uptown, with restaurants nearby for a celebration lunch.

  • Frazier Park

    Third Ward

A shady, low-key spot just west of Uptown with skyline glimpses. Good when you'd like more privacy than Romare Bearden.

Gardens

Beautiful, and worth a little planning: most have their own rules or reservations.

  • McGill Rose Garden

    940 N. Davidson St. · NoDa

A small, much-loved rose garden. Blooms peak in late spring. Ceremonies typically need permission from the garden in advance.

  • Wing Haven Gardens

248 Ridgewood Ave. · Myers Park

A walled garden with brick paths and fountains. A reservation is required, so plan ahead.

  • UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens

    University City

Greenhouse and woodland gardens on campus. Check their policies for ceremonies and photography before booking.

Do you need a permit to elope in a Charlotte park?

For a small, quick ceremony with no setup, usually not. Once you add chairs, an arch, decorations, amplified sound, or a larger group, a park may require a reservation or permit, and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation handles those for county parks. Private gardens set their own rules. Tell us where you're thinking and we'll help you check.

Tips for a great Charlotte elopement

  • Go early. Weekday mornings are quiet, cool in summer, and the light is soft for photos.
  • Have a rain plan. Covered spots in Uptown work in a pinch, and we can shift the time.
  • Watch the calendar. Panthers and Charlotte FC home games, festivals, and marathons crowd Uptown.
  • Book a photographer. Charlotte has wonderful elopement photographers. Ask us for names.
