Who we marry
Your officiant
I'm Colin, a Charlotte local. I started Charlotte Elopements because the legal part of getting married should be as easy as booking anything else online.
You pick the time. I show up early, keep it warm and short, make sure every line on the license is right, and get it back to the county. No religious language, no lectures, no judgment, just two people making it official.
More about me and the ceremonyBook
Takes about two minutes. Nothing is charged until Colin confirms your date.
Good questions
North Carolina's marriage law (G.S. 51-1) requires a magistrate or an ordained or authorized minister of a religious denomination. Colin is completing his endorsement as a Humanist Society Celebrant. The Humanist Society is a long-standing national body that endorses humanist clergy and celebrants, which is the path secular officiants in North Carolina rely on instead of one-click online ordinations. We only confirm ceremony dates once that endorsement is in place. More on how this works.
Yes. Both of you apply in person at the Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds, 720 E. 4th Street, Room 105, on a weekday. The license is good for 60 days, and there is no waiting period, so you can get it and be married the same day. Step-by-step license guide.
Two, both at least 18. Bring two friends, or add our witness option for $50 and we'll bring them.
We do. After you sign, Colin completes the officiant section and returns the license to the Register of Deeds within the 10 days the law allows. You order certified copies from the county afterward.
Requesting a time is free. Once Colin confirms your date, you'll get a secure payment link by email. No cash, no checks, no paperwork.
